ABOUT US

Williams Computer Research began operations in Kinsale, south west Ireland, in the spring of 1988 as a database programming company. It was quickly approached by members of the Transport & Freight Forwarding Services Industry to consider developing software for companies providing customs clearance in Ireland.

For the next year, the founder, David Williams, who had worked for GTE Information Systems in New York in the 70's and had collaborated on various projects in Dublin throughout the early 80's, met with freight forwarders and listened to their needs, and then he incorporated their advice into a software program. The key to the entire concept was to make computerised customs documentation forms that would include everything set out in the Revenue Commissioners' guidelines.

In 1989, the first copy of AOIFE the Automated Itegrated Freight Environment, the precursor to FreightLink was installed in a Customs Clearance Agent's office in Dublin. The new program quickly became popular and was installed in many independent Customs Clearance Agents who integrated it with in-house applications. AOIFE was designed specifically for the Microsoft MS-DOS operating system.

In April 1991, Customs & Excise introduced the automation of import and export procedures AEP (Automated Entry Processing). Once again Williams Computer Research provided a fully comprehensive SAD (Single Administrative Document) system interfaced to the INET Messaging Module PCX400, allowing electronic customs clearance of goods using DTI (Direct Trader Input). Several years later following this introduction, AOIFE became one of the most popular programs in this industry to run on networked computers.

In early 1999, Williams Computer Research released a robust 32bit Microsoft Windows version of AOIFE a fully integrated freight management system FreightLink, incorporating SADLink.

Since 2003, while most competing software companies were providing technical support services to "24/7 script readers", Williams Computer Research continues it's committment to personal service and support direct from the developers. Assistance and training is provided on-site or via the internet, certain system upgrades are automated. Updates continue to be released several times each year. Internet integration continues to be expanded.

In keeping with our original founding principles, 100 percent of the features added to the programs are based on the input of our clients, and they are implemented as technology advances to provide reliable new features to Freight Forwarders and Customs Clearance Agents seeking to maximise their knowledge of their business, and to increase profits through identified and planned efficiency.
